An Abridged Working Life Table for Korean Males (1990 , 1995)

Abstract
The average expectation of life has for many years been recognized as valuable tool for the pubic health specialist, the life insurance actuary, the demographer, and for others interested in measuring the progress of man in his control over his biological environment. In similar fashion, the average length of working life-and the age at which men begin and cnd their work careers-are of vital interest to all those concemed with the working population and with problems of economic welfare.
In a period when life expectation was relatively short, when living standards were low and the great majority of workers were stile farmers or small handicrafstmen, a destination between the propective physiological life span and the length of working life would therefore have been meaningless.
However, the emergence of a large aged and dependent group in the population has made cvident the need for separate measurement of the duration of working life.
The present report contains a brief description of the pattem and the change of working life during 1990 to 1995 in Korean males. The definition and derivation of functions are also included containing a detailed description of methodotogy.
